FAQs

What are the goals of the Democratic Men of North Carolina?

Our mission statement is pretty straightforward: “Encourage men to join the Democratic Party to help Democrats win elections and make North Carolina and our nation a place of respect, dignity, and opportunity for everyone.” We are reaching out to men across our state - from the mountains to the coast, in counties that are rural, urban, and suburban. We want to hear what men have to say and to show how the Democratic Party is a place for them and all men.

How do you plan to encourage more men to join the NCDP in ways that have not already been tried?

We’re starting by reaching out to men who were once Democrats or are today ambivalent about the Democratic Party. We want to hear what they have to say. What’s important to them, their families, and their future? We’re starting with a program of listening sessions. The first stop is in Laurinburg on Friday, February 7th at 10am at The Bistro. Check it out.

What’s your relationship to and opinion of the current North Carolina Democratic Party?

We support the NCDP 100%. It’s the Democratic Party that’s fighting for working families and an economy that works for everyone. It’s the Democratic Party that’s helping build communities where everyone is treated with dignity and respect regardless of who they are. It’s Democrats who are fighting for public schools, affordable healthcare, protections for our environment and a democracy where everyone has an equal chance to have an equal say. The Democratic Men of NC support all of that, and we think most men across North Carolina do, too. So we are reaching out to them.

There’s a Democratic Party in every county of North Carolina. How will you work the local organizations?

County chapters of the North Carolina Democratic Party are vital to future success of Democrats in NC. Long-term organizing, voter registration, and voter turnout results are dependant on strong local chapters of the Democratic Party. The DMNC hopes to work closely with local chapters in all 100 counties.

Men ran the Democratic Party for a long time. How is this group not an organization that’s hoping to re-establish the old way of doing things?

Diversity is absolutely a major strength of the Democratic Party, and we whole-heartedly embrace it. The DMNC is externally focused on hearing from men and bringing more men into the Democratic Party to help Democrats win elections. We are not internally preoccupied on what people or personalities are running the NCDP. We’re focused on helping build a big tent party for the future. We want to help Democrats win, so Republicans cannot continue to drag us back to the past.
