Duplin County
When Melvin Williams was a student at Duke University, he joined Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and 250,000 more Americans in the famous March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on August 28, 1963. He heard Dr. King make his historic "I Have A Dream" speech. He has dedicated his life to working for equal rights and voting rights for all Americans. He is excited about the formation of a Democratic Men's organization because men are a major demographic group to which the Democratic Party needs to reach out.
Melvin is the enthusiastic State Secretary of the North Carolina Democratic Party. For 14 years he has used his position to uplift, encourage, and promote Democrats across the state. Melvin is the previous Chair of the Duplin County Democratic Party of eight years and previous Chair of the Seventh Congressional District of eight years before being elected State Secretary.
